World Water Day Special Event “Priority Actions for Water and Disasters in the next Decade” was held on 22 March, 2017 at the UN Headquarters,NY.
Dr. Han Seung-soo, the Special Envoy for Disaster Risk Reduction and Water, organized the World Water Day Special Event “Priority Actions for Water and Disasters in the next Decade” on 22 March 2017, jointly organised by the High Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP), UN Water and UN mission of Japan, Mauritius, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Switzerland and Tajikistan. The event was attended by around 100 representatives of the Permanent Missions which are active in the field of water and disasters. As the joint secretary of the High Level Panel on Water (HLPW), UNDESA/Division for Sustainable Development supported and coordinated the event. The event focused on contributing to the Decade for Actions “Water for Sustainable Development”. The first part took keynote from the President of the 71st session of UN General Assembly, the UN Special Envoy on Disaster Risk Reduction and Water, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Tajikistan and Member of House of Representatives of Japan. The second Part focused on the priority actions on water and disasters in the Decade for Actions, with the presence of the Chair and Chair of Technical Committee of Global Water Partnership, Vice Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan, Vice-chair of the Global High Level Panel on Water and Peace. The event was opened by the remark from Mexico Ambassador while it was closed by the remarks from Mauritius Ambassador both in their capacity of co-chairs of HLPW Sherpas. This event was the first stage joined by three panels: HLPW, HELP, and Global High Level Panel on Water and Peace.
